SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Bruins legend Milian Lucic made his debut with the Springfield Thunderbirds Friday night at the MassMutual Center. Western Mass News went to the sold-out game with more after speaking with T-Birds fans in attendance.
Folks were very excited and enthusiastic to see Lucic play with the T-Birds for the very first time this evening. The 37-year-old spent nine of his 17 NHL seasons with the Boston Bruins and won the Stanley Cup with them back in 2011.
Lucic originally signed a professional tryout contract with the St. Louis Blues before the start of training camp this year and played in four preseason games before suffering a lower-body injury.
He now has a similar contract with the Springfield Thunderbirds. Fans told Western Mass News they can’t wait to see what’s in store for the T-Birds tonight and beyond, “We’ve been season ticket holders for 14 years, wouldn’t miss this for the world. Milan Lucic coming to Springfield is kind of like the biggest thing the Springfield Thunderbirds have ever had. Being a powerhouse for Boston, winning the Stanley Cup, bringing down experience, bringing down strength, energy for the younger guys, it’s a big thing,” said Al Arment.
Coming up later tonight on Western Mass News at 10 and 11, we’ll let you know how Lucic fared in his Springfield debut, and more from fans who were here to witness it.
