When Sergei Fedorov was coaching CSKA Moscow to successive Gagarin Cup titles in the KHL, there were rumblings among the Detroit Red Wings fan base that they’d like to see what he could achieve working behind the bench of his old NHL club.
When Fedorov was coaching, the only rumblings he felt were the stress-induced indigestion. When he stepped down from his role at CSKA Moscow, Fedorov indicated his coaching days were done.

Time may heal all wounds, but the passage of time hasn’t changed his mind on this matter. If you were thinking that Fedorov might someday be joining others from the Red Wings dynasty days in helping shape the future of the franchise, you’d best put those thoughts on pause.
In town for the Red Wings Centennial Fan Fest celebrations, Fedorov shrugged off any notion that he might pursue NHL coaching or front office work as his mission.
“I don’t think so,” Fedorov said. “I wouldn’t like to be a coach or involved with that kind of tremendous, grueling process.”

The father of two young children, they are the priority in his life today. Living on the outskirts of Moscow with his wife Karina, the Fedorovs have a daughter, Alexandra, age nine, and a son, Viktor, who is eight.
I’m totally a family man,” Fedorov said. “So I don’t see myself, to be honest with you, trying to conquer something else. I think coaching or something like that, or anything like that, it’s not gonna be on my mind. And I don’t think it’s possible.

“I want to stay with the family and grow together with my kids and be around for them.”
Still serving on the board at CSKA Moscow, he occasionally goes on the ice to work on specifics with the team’s centers, but that’s about as hands-on as he gets in the teaching process.
“I do help the Russian team I work for,” Fedorov said. “I have a great relationship with the coaches and guys when I’m there, but it’s not an everyday job.”
