Calgary Flames rookie defenceman Zayne Parekh could be sidelined for the immediate future after leaving Friday’s 4-0 loss to the visiting Chicago Blackhawks due to an upper-body injury.

Head coach Ryan Huska told reporters after the game that “[Parekh]’s gonna miss a little bit of time.”

The 19-year-old from Markham, Ont., left midway through the second period after taking a hit from veteran Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno.

Parekh had 6:25 of ice time before exiting.

Selected ninth overall by the Flames in 2024, Parekh has recorded one assist over 11 games this season after scoring one goal in his lone NHL game last year.

Calgary sits in last place in the NHL with a 4-10-2 record.
