Columbus Blue Jackets News and Notes:
The Columbus Blue Jackets are coming off a dominant 5-1 loss to the Calgary Flames in Nazem Kadri’s 1000th game, and the Blue Jackets could never really capitalize on scoring attempts. They were able to get 43 shots on goal compared to Calgary’s 26, but with an expert performance from Dustin Wolf in goal, Columbus couldn’t get on the board besides a Kirill Marchenko shorthanded goal late in the first period. Suffering their second loss in a row dropped them down a tad in the loaded Eastern Conference, with every single team sitting with 14 points or above.
Vancouver Canucks News and Notes:
The Vancouver Canucks had a rough start to their four-game homestand on Wednesday as the Chicago Blackhawks got on the board with a 4-0 lead in the first period, and the Canucks never recovered. That included a one period hat-trick from Tyler Bertuzzi. The Canucks were able to bring it back a little bit, but the score ended 5-2 in favour of the Chicago Blackhawks. With top performers like Quinn Hughes and Conor Garland recently back in the lineup, chemistry is able to be built a bit more than before with the Canucks hovering in the middle of the Western Conference.

Players to Watch:
Columbus Blue Jackets:
Kirill Marchenko has been on fire this season with thirteen points in thirteen games, and is currently on a six-game point streak. He is a massive spark on an otherwise fairly neutral Columbus Blue Jackets roster. Whereas the Blue Jackets’ go-to guy, Zach Werenski, continues to prove why he is one of the best two-way defensemen in the entire league. He’s just outside the top ten in points this season with four goals and six assists, putting him tied for second in goals. While also being one of the best skaters among defensemen and second in the league in time-on-ice right behind Vancouver’s Quinn Hughes, marking arguably the top defensemen matchups on tonight’s matchcard.
Vancouver Canucks:
Evander Kane has been on a resurgence early on in the 2025-26 NHL season. Kane has a goal in his last two games as well as a point in four of his last six games. On a roster with so many injuries at this point in the season, Kane has been a steady producer in clutch moments. Conor Garland is also back in the lineup as of Wednesday. While he wasn’t able to produce in his return, he’s coming into tonight’s matchup against the Blue Jackets much fresher while still leading the team in points with three goals and eight assists. He’ll be coming into a Vancouver roster that is desperate for offensive production and shot opportunities, and head coach Adam Foote will definitely be looking to get the puck onto the stick of Garland tonight.
