For the sixth time in 15 games this season, the Flyers were in overtime on Saturday afternoon. After a dominant second and third period, limiting the Ottawa Senators to just six shots for the final 40 minutes, the Flyers had rallied back from a slow start to force the extra session.

But that’s the thing about 3-on-3 overtime. You can be limited for most of the game and win with one mistake. It turned out to be the Flyers on the end of that mistake.

Tim Stutzle scored on the back door for his second goal of the game at 3:19 of overtime, handing the Flyers a 3-2 loss at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The Senators took full advantage of a slow start by the Flyers. At 5:14, off a turnover, David Perron set up Stutzle for a one-timer for his seventh goal of the season.

Just 65 seconds later, the Flyers broke down defensively as Michael Amadio walked in and put a backhand home for his fifth of the season to make it 2-0 at 6:19.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 6-4 Ottawa.

The Flyers finally broke through at 11:23 of the second. Matvei Michkov made a great play to the slot and scored his third goal of the season to make it 2-1.

Through two periods, shots were 14-11 Flyers.

Just shy of the halfway point of the third, the Flyers tied the game. A deflection from a Trevor Zegras shot sat in the slot for Jamie Drysdale to put home. His second of the season made it 2-2.

In the overtime, the Flyers allowed the first mistake to go the other way. A two-on-one for Ottawa ended with Stutzle being in perfect position for a tap-in, as the Senators grabbed the second point.

Linus Ullmark made 20 saves on 22 shots in the win. Sam Ersson made 10 saves on 13 shots in the loss.

Christian Dvorak had two assists for the Flyers.

The Flyers are back on home ice on Wednesday night to take on the Edmonton Oilers at 7:30 p.m.
