• Round 2:
Jesper Bratt scores
Sidney Crosby is stopped. Devils win.
• Round 1, Devils shooting first:
Paul Cotter scores
Bryan Rust is stopped
• Going to a shootout. Arturs Silovs is 0-2 in shootouts this season with one save on six shots.
• Last 30 seconds of OT.
• Erik Karlsson has been outstanding.
• Tommy Novak getting some time in OT.
• Overtime.
• Final minute.
• Three minutes.
• Four minutes left.
• Back to full strength.
• Thinking of that time a couple years ago that the Penguins and Devils went to OT, Marcus Pettersson blew it, and Mark Friedman told the media to “f— off” when it was time to talk to Pettersson about it. Petey’s personal enforcer. Good times.
• Another massive save from Arturs Silovs on this PK.
• Penguins to the PK. Evgeni Malkin.
• Some shuffling to the defense pairs. Ryan Graves is with Kris Letang, Ryan Shea with Connor Clifton.
• Bryan Rust just put a puck off Nico Hischier’s face. Hischier goes down the tunnel.
• Power play comes to an end.
• Penguins get a power play with 18:15 left. Stefan Noesen slashed Ryan Graves.
• The Devils only have one rebound attempt all game.
• Third is underway.
• End of the second. Ryan Graves has this one tied, 1-1. Shots are 23-15 Penguins.
• Oh my, Arturs Silovs, what a diving glove save in the final minute of this period. Insane.
• The third pair still has more five-on-five time than the second pair.
• Even from back in the preseason it was clear that Ryan Graves was trying to get more involved offensively. That continued into his time in the AHL. Like yeah he was picking up a lot of assists down there, but he was shooting a ton, which is something Dan Muse wants from the defensemen. Paid off here.
• GOAL: Ryan Graves with a blast from back by the blue line that hits Ondrej Palat in the face and deflects in. Penguins 1, Devils 1.
• Pink is here. The singer. Big ovation when she’s shown on the videoboard.
• Really good extended shift from the top line. Ryan Graves had a couple good plays at the blue line to keep the puck in the Devils’ end.
• Anthony Mantha gets a partial breakaway and puts the shot off the end boards.
• Connor Clifton has five of the Penguins’ 14 hits
• Interesting: So far, the Penguins lead by about a minute in zone time, like play has been in New Jersey’s end more than their own. But Devils lead by around two minutes in actual possession time.
• Penguins kill the penalty.
• Penguins to the PK just 49 seconds into this period. Erik Karlsson for hooking.
• Second period is underway.
• Tommy Novak has returned for a second time.
• Kris Letang already has a full minute lower TOI than Ryan Graves. Nearly a full minute less than his own D partner, Ryan Shea. Could be rewarding the third pair for playing well, but also could mean Letang is sick or something, especially since Shea is playing more than him. Regardless, might see that trend continue here.
• End of the first. It’s 1-0 Devils, courtesy of a Arseny Gritsyuk goal and Kris Letang assist. Shots are 12-7 Penguins.
• GOAL: Devils strike first in the last minute of the period. Kris Letang with an awful turnover in his own end, to Arseny Gritsyuk all alone in front of the net. Just a no-look backhand pass for no reason, unforced. Gritsyuk buries it. Devils 1, Penguins 0
• Poor Ville Koivunen with a point-blank chance that is gloved down. He can’t believe it, throws his hands up to his face.
• Shots are 11-5 Penguins now. Really turned things around.
• The third pairing is getting more ice time than the second pairing. And within the second pairing, Ryan Shea has almost a full minute more than Kris Letang, his partner. I wonder if Letang is dealing with something.
• Tommy Novak goes back down the tunnel. Probably for the best. I don’t know what could have possibly been accomplished in the 30 seconds he went in there the first time. Could have been pulled by the concussion spotter.
• Wow, Tommy Novak is back at the TV timeout. Didn’t even miss a shift. I thought he was out. I mean, he was laying face-down on the ice.
• Tommy Novak did go down the tunnel. Can’t imagine he’ll be back.
• Brenden Dillon with a huge hit on Tommy Novak and he’s hurting. Was down on the ice for some time. Anthony Mantha makes Dillon answer for it and drops the gloves.
• Ville Koivunen throws a shot on net, still looking for his first NHL goal.
• Now it’s Blake Lizotte with a chance off the rush, Jake Allen makes the save.
• Hey, the Penguins finally have a shot on goal. Kris Letang.
• Three minutes in and Devils have the only three shots.
• Not that Kevin Hayes was ever particularly fast, but he’s definitely still getting his legs back.
• This is underway.
• The woman who does the anthem, Arlette Roxburgh, is really good. Up there with Tampa’s for my favorites.
• Devils’ lines and pairings:

• Jake Allen leads the Devils out for warmups. Sheldon Keefe had declined to share his starter in his pregame availability.
