Colorado Avalanche News and Notes:
The Colorado Avalanche continue to show why they are the best team in the league, or at least are playing like it. The Avalanche are sitting with the best record in the NHL, the most points in the NHL, and they just handed the Stanley Cup final Edmonton Oilers a 9-1 throttling last night at the Rogers Place in Edmonton as they look to continue that momentum into the Rogers Arena in Vancouver. Not to mention the eight players that had a multi-point performance in that game, which would be Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Devon Toews, Gavin Brindley, Parker Kelly, Jack Drury, Zakhar Bardakov, and Ross Colton. This lineup is firing on all cylinders with no sign of stopping.
Vancouver Canucks News and Notes:
On the other hand, the Vancouver Canucks were able to barely scrape out a 4-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets last night with some big performances from the recovering Quinn Hughes and Conor Garland. But just as the future starts to get bright on the west coast, news breaks and star goalie Thatcher Demko is out with an undisclosed injury, slotting Kevin Lankinen in as the full-time goalie at least until we get some concrete news or a return date. Until then, the Vancouver Canucks have a massive hole to fill between the pipes, and it’ll have to be all hands on deck if they want to have a shot against the juggernaut that is the Colorado Avalanche.

Players to Watch:
Colorado Avalanche:
Of course, Colorado has a loaded roster of players who have been on fire, but an underrated performer in last night’s matchup that could continue his production is fourth-line forward Parker Kelly. Kelly was also able to notch both his third and fourth goals of the 2025-26 season as well as an assist, claiming the first star in the Colorado Avalanche win. Along with third-line forward Jack Drury double-dipping for two goals as well, the Canucks are going to have their hands full up and down the Avalanche roster. I would say the only unproven aspect of the Colorado Avalanche is the touch-and-go goaltender play from Mackenzie Blackwood, due to recovering from a lower-body injury. Definitely will be something to look out for against a team like Vancouver, who likes to capitalize with minimal shot attempts.
Vancouver Canucks:
Drew O’Connor continues to be the subtle spark that Canucks need to pull out close wins. O’Connor was able to pick up the opening goals assist as well as the tying goal to knot the game up at two apiece against the Columbus Blue Jackets last night. While Brock Boeser is earning every penny of the new seven-million-dollar contract as he raises his goal tally up to seven after potting the game-winner of a slick cross-ice pass from Kiefer Sherwood. That game winner puts Boeser into the double-digit points as well, just sixteen games into the season. With a David vs Goliath type matchup on their hands tonight, Vancouver is going to have to maintain the consistency they have right now up and down the lineup until the get some sort of semblance of a completed roster back.
