Nate Danielson, red wings

Nate Danielson

Nate Danielson has been recalled from Grand Rapids to play with the Detroit Red Wings today against the Blackhawks.

After a strong preseason that was cut short by injury Danielson was sent down to Grand Rapids to play with the Griffins in the middle of last month after his return. Drafted 15th overall in the same year as the Chicago Blackhawks’ Connor Bedard, Danielson was described as the hardest player the 2023 first overall pick in the NHL draft faced in the WHL.

After spending his draft +1 season finishing out his career in the WHL, which included a trade to the Portland Winterhawks mid season, Danielson came to Grand Rapids for the Calder Cup playoffs. Last year was his first full season in the AHL, and he had 12 goals and 27 assists through 71 games.

So far this season after his return from injury Danielson has 5 points through four games with Grand Rapids (1 G, 4 A). The move comes at the same time as Marco Kasper has been moved from centering the second line to the wing on the third line. Given that Danielson has shown center/ wing flexibility throughout his career, fans could be seeing a line that contains both the Red Wings 2022 and 2023 first round draft picks.
