“The recovery process has been a bit of a grind,” Perfetti told reporters in Anaheim prior to the puck drop. “With injuries you never want them to happen, and it has been tough to miss the start of the (season). I am excited to be back with the guys and finally able to play in a game.”

On Saturday head coach Scott Arniel hinted there was a possibility Perfetti could make an appearance against the Ducks, though the winger had to pass some tests, the biggest one getting the thumbs up from the training staff.

“He woke up (on Sunday) morning and felt good,” Arniel said. “He adds another offensive element for us, both on the powerplay and at five-on-five. It is good to have him back.”

Perfetti injured himself in the final pre-season game against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 3, finishing his check in the last few seconds of the first period.

“I was feeling good in camp and through the pre-season,” he said. “It is going to take a little bit of time. When you miss a month, you are going to be off a little bit with the timing. It might not be perfect right away, but that is part of coming back.”

At best, he is hoping to pick right up where he left off prior to his ankle injury, but he also realizes his cardio and situational awareness will improve, given time.

“The cardio feels good, but it is nothing like playing a game,” Perfetti said. “The puck touches feel good, the ankle feels good, now (it’s about) going out there and making some reads, making some plays, turning the brain back on to thinking fast, while having the ability to read and adapt. That is going to be the biggest adjustment.”

At the game day skate on Sunday morning, Perfetti skated with Jonathan Toews and Vlad Namestnikov. He was also on the top powerplay unit with Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, Gabe Vilardi and Josh Morrissey.

“I have played multiple years with Vlad, so we know what to expect from one another,” Perfetti said. “And I got a lot of time with Toews for the first month of training camp. The familiarity is there, and I think we are comfortable with one another.”

Last season Perfetti played 82 regular-season games and scored 50 points. In the post-season, he scored three goals and added three assists in 13 playoff games.
