SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – It’s now been a full decade since the Fight Like A Ninja hockey tournament began in Sioux Falls, honoring the life of Brittany Corcoran and raising mental health awareness.
The tournament also raises money to go towards a scholarship fund for other hockey players who share Brittany’s passion for the sport.
Fight Like A Ninja CEO Angela Drake said it’s been a long time without Brittany, but with the tournament bigger than ever and reaching more people, their mission is working.
“So many families don’t know how to start a conversation. When you come to an event like this, it gives you some groundwork to just ask some questions that you maybe wouldn’t have. To start conversations that maybe you didn’t know how,” Drake said.
This year’s winner of the Aloha Spirit Award is the Watertown Lakers, showing unity, compassion, and sportsmanship on and off the ice.
