After losing the first three games of their road trip, the Chicago Blackhawks have responded with three consecutive victories after defeating the Detroit Red Wings 5-1 at Little Caesars Arena on Sunday afternoon. The Blackhawks impressively finish their six-game road trip with a 3-2-1 record, earning seven of a possible 12 points.
The Blackhawks weren’t at their finest on Sunday, but goaltender Arvid Soderblom had a career performance to guide them to a third straight win. Soderblom made a career-high 45 saves to earn his second win of the season, and he was also credited with 3.83 goals saved above expected, according to MoneyPuck. Over the last three games, Soderblom and Spencer Knight have combined to stop a whopping 121 of 124 shots faced.
Special teams also played a massive role once again in the Blackhawks’ extending the winning streak, as the power play went three-for-three, while the penalty kill was five-for-five. During the back half of the road trip, the man advantage went five-for-seven, and the penalty kill went ten-for-ten.
Then, there was Connor Bedard continuing to excel during his third NHL season. Bedard added another three points on Sunday, as he scored his ninth goal of the season and tallied two primary assists. Bedard extended his current point streak to eight games, and he now has 18 points (7G, 11A) during that stretch.
Tyler Bertuzzi also stayed red hot, as he potted his ninth goal of the season and sixth over the last three games. Bertuzzi, a former Red Wings draft pick, also chipped in for an assist for his third consecutive multi-point outing. He’s tied with Bedard for the team lead in goals and has found the back of the net in four of the last five games.
Lost in the shuffle was the Blackhawks beating Patrick Kane for the first time since he departed the organization. The three-time Stanley Cup champion and forever franchise icon was previously 3-0-0 against the Blackhawks entering Sunday. Kane failed to record a point and had five shots on goal in 17:34 of ice time in Detroit’s third straight loss.
Here are the key highlights, stats, and takeaways from the Blackhawks’ win, which moves them to 8-5-3 on the season.
BEDARD NHL POINT LEADER
It didn’t take long for Bedard to extend his point streak on Sunday, as he rifled home a shot on the power play to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead just 59 seconds into the contest.

Bedard picked up two primary assists later in the game, which now gives him 25 points on the season. With a three-point day, Bedard has leapfrogged Macklin Celebrini and Nathan MacKinnon to become the leading point scorer in the entire NHL.
Not only is Bedard now leading the NHL in points, but he’s also first in the league in primary assists (13) and five-on-five points (15). The growth he’s shown through the opening 16 games has been remarkable, and he’s driving the Blackhawks to a surprisingly splendid start to the season.
I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it again. Year-three Bedard is a different animal, and that should be scary for the other 31 NHL clubs.
Soderblom’s Day To Remember
Soderblom will absolutely remember Sunday’s game because of how well he played, but it was also one he’ll cherish forever for another reason.
Sunday marked the first time that Arvid faced off with his little brother, Elmer, a sixth-round pick by Detroit in 2019, in the NHL. Elmer was responsible for one of the Red Wings’ 46 shots that they fired on net, which was stopped by Arvid’s right pad for some “Soderblom on Soderblom” action!
The Blackhawks’ netminder’s top highlight of the day came near the midway point of the contest, as he robbed Red Wings’ captain Dylan Larkin with a potential save-of-the-year candidate. He was barely able to get his right pad on Larkin’s shot after a perfectly executed give-and-go with Alex DeBrincat.
Arvid came away victorious in the Battle of the Soderbloms in the Motor City, and it was arguably the best start of his NHL career. Very fitting.
“When you’re younger, you’re playing on the street, playing in the basement, and now you’re here at the biggest stage in the world,” Soderblom said after the game. “That’s special, for sure.”
Bert Gets Last Laugh
Bertuzzi, as he always is, was involved in a series of post-whistle skirmishes on Sunday afternoon. Early in the second period, Bertuzzi was the beneficiary of one of those sequences, as he cleverly drew a penalty on Detroit defenseman Travis Hamonic.
However, Bertuzzi was later whistled for a roughing infraction during a skirmish, which he didn’t agree with whatsoever. After barking back at the officials, Bertuzzi was hit with a double-minor, as he was also given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. He really didn’t do all that much after the whistle sounded.
Like he did against the Canucks on Wednesday, Bertuzzi ended up getting his revenge in Detroit, as he scored his ninth goal of the year to put the Blackhawks ahead by a pair in the third period.

Bertuzzi also had an assist in the second period, and his two-point game now moves him into a tie for second on the Blackhawks in points with 14. He’s also first on the team with five power-play goals.
Burakovsky Reaches Milestone
Andre Burakovsky was exceptional once again in Detroit, as he scored the empty-netter and had a primary assist for his fourth multi-point performance in the past seven games. The 30-year-old forward has recorded ten points (5G, 5A) during that stretch and tallied at least one point in five of six games on the road trip.
Burakovsky’s first point of the game occurred in the second period, where he made a perfect pass to find Teuvo Teravainen for his third goal of the season on a one-timer. That marked Burakovsky’s fourth power-play assist on the year.

The assist also officially gave Burakovsky 400 points in his NHL career, and he made it 401 points with his seventh goal of the season to seal the Blackhawks’ win.
Burakovsky has been a wonderful addition to the top line alongside Bedard, and the duo appears to be growing a stronger connection with each passing game. He’s tied with Bertuzzi for the second-most points on the team.
Top PP Unit Keeps Cookin’
The Blackhawks’ top power-play unit has been firing on all cylinders during the winning streak, which has notably happened immediately after Artyom Levshunov stepped into the quarterback role. Sam Rinzel was really struggling in that spot, so head coach Jeff Blashill elected to give Levshunov an opportunity.
That decision has paid off nicely for all parties involved, aside from Rinzel, as Levshunov has meshed well with the top unit and has made a quick impact. The 2024 No. 2 overall pick has now carded a power-play assist in three games in a row since his promotion.
After a quiet start to his first full NHL season, Levshunov’s game has been improving rapidly in recent weeks. The right-handed defenseman has seven assists in the last seven games, and he ended up on the stat sheet five times during the six-game road trip.
With two assists on Sunday, Levshunov is up to nine points (all assists) in the young 2025-26 campaign, which leads all Blackhawks defenseman. His first NHL goal continued to elude him, but he’s done an excellent job at moving the puck properly in the offensive zone.
“He’s definitely continuing to get better,” Blashill said about Levshunov. “He’s a guy who plays on his instincts, and his instincts are good.”
Moore’s First of Many
Speaking of first NHL goals, that’s precisely what Oliver Moore accomplished on Sunday against the Red Wings.
Moore, the 19th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, was active early in Detroit, as he led the Blackhawks with four shots on goal and three individual scoring chances in the first period.
The 20-year-old forward has done an excellent job of crashing the net with a purpose during his current NHL stint, and his hard work finally paid off in the dwindling seconds of the game. Moore received a beautiful feed from Ryan Donato and made no mistake with the shot, beating John Gibson for his first NHL goal!
Congrats, Olli! The first of MANY for him in Chicago.
“It feels like a weight off the shoulders a little bit,” Moore said. “It reminds you of all the people [who] got you to this point. It’s all about the guys in here making it easy for me to come in.”
No Nazar in Hometown
Perhaps the only negative from Sunday’s game was that Frank Nazar, a Detroit native, missed his first game of the season with an undisclosed injury. Nazar fell to the ice awkwardly in the opening period on Friday in Calgary, and he was unable to return for the remainder of the contest.
Nazar was actually on the ice for the Blackhawks during pregame warmups, but Blashill and the coaching staff decided to hold him out of the lineup, likely due to precautionary measures. Blashill said after Friday’s game that Nazar is only dealing with a day-to-day issue, which is great news for the Blackhawks.
There’s a strong chance that Nazar is back in the lineup when the team returns to the United Center against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night.
