Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin Speaks About Decision to Bring Back Brock Boeser as a UFA

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin spoke about the team’s decision to bring back Brock Boeser as a free agent while on After Hours on Saturday night.

For weeks leading up to the National Hockey League’s trade deadline last season, Brock Boeser’s name was mentioned in rumors as Patrik Allvin was weighing what to do with the pending unrestricted free agent forward.

Ultimately, Allvin decided to stand pat and kept Boeser past the deadline, using him as their own rental to help for a playoff push, but it didn’t look like there were many great offers for the 28-year-old, with the Canucks General Manager raising some eyebrows with his comments to the media that day.”If I told you what I was offered for Brock Boeser, I think I would have to run out of here because you would not believe me. I would imagine that Brock is extremely hungry to finish off strong here and then prove that he’s a good player in this league, and we’ll continue to talk [about a new contract].” Allvin said.

While many were expecting Boeser’s tenure with the organization to come to a close following the season, the Vancouver Canucks snuck in at the last minute on Canada Day and signed him to a seven-year deal worth $7.25 million annually.

On Saturday night, Patrik Allvin was a guest on After Hours with Scott Oake where he mentioned that he apologized to Brock Boeser for comments made after the trade deadline and that the organization is very happy that they were able to work out a deal to keep the Burnsville, Minnesota native in Vancouver.

“I apologized to Brock for my comments, I thought the market wasn’t respecting him enough. He expressed wanting to stay. We respect him going to free agency. In the end I’m extremely happy to have him back he means a lot to the franchise” Allvin said.

Thankfully for the Vancouver Canucks, the decision to re-sign Brock Boeser is working out in their favour as he’s off to a pretty good start to the 2025-26 season, registering ten points (seven goals, three assists) in 14 games as of Sunday morning.
