The Oilers fell 9-1 in a dominant loss to the Avalanche on Saturday, and now captain Connor McDavid has addressed his disappointment in the performance.
The Edmonton Oilers have been on the cusp of a Stanley Cup for a few seasons now, and after plenty of change in the summer, they appear ready to make another run to the Finals in 2026.
However, the start for this team hasn’t been fantastic, as they are now just 6-6-4 on the year through their first 16 games, with the worst defeat of all coming on Saturday night at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche.
Behind a combined 4 goals and 6 points from Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, the Avs dismantled the Oilers at home, coming away winners 9-1 in what was a pathetic performance from Edmonton.
Connor McDavid Opens Up On A Tough Loss
Now, captain Connor McDavid has opened up on the defeat on Sportsnet, labelling the defeat as ‘humbling’, with this defeat perhaps being something this team needed to wake them up early in the year.
There were plenty of people to blame for the Oilers defeat at the hands of the Avalanche, from the goaltending to their defense and especially the offense, which has been rather lackluster this season despite having some of the biggest names in the league leading the way.
Ultimately, Edmonton has plenty of time to bounce back from this defeat, but only if they learn from it, and given the way McDavid spoke in the moments after the loss, this is a group that’s ready to embrace the defeat and move forward as they aim to compete for a Stanley Cup once more.
