The Florida Panthers (7-7-1) will wrap up a four-game road trip and go for the season series sweep when they do battle with the Vegas Golden Knights (7-3-4) tonight at T-Mobile Arena.
Despite peppering Yaroslav Askarov with 39 shots, Florida fell 3-1 to the rapidly-improving San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Saturday to drop to 1-2 on the trek west. Brad Marchand scored his tenth of the season to pull the Cats within a goal early in the second period, but they couldn’t find the back of the net again the rest of the way. Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen had the assists on Marchand’s marker, and Sam Reinhart registered a game-high seven shots in the loss.
The Golden Knights, who are playing the fifth game of a six-game homestand, have leveled off after a hot start to the season and are just 2-2-2 over their last six. After getting drubbed 6-3 by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, Vegas got third period goals from Pavel Dorofeyev and Kaedan Korczak to rally from two-down to earn a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the mighty Anaheim Ducks on Saturday. Jack Eichel is tied for sixth in NHL scoring with 22 points. The 25-year-old Dorofeyev leads the team with ten goals.
