2024-25 Season Head-to-Head: Blue Jackets 1-1 Oilers
How to Watch:

U.S. TV: Fan Duel Sports Ohio; ESPN+

Canada TV: Prime (Canada)

Time: 8:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)

It’s another edition of Prime Monday Night Hockey in today’s NHL predictions. The Blue Jackets make their second trip to Alberta this season to play the Oilers. Both Columbus and Edmonton are near the bottom of their respective divisions. Some thought the Blue Jackets would have a hard time replicating last season’s surprising campaign. However, the Oilers are struggling and are in seventh place in the Pacific Division.

Columbus has lost its last three consecutive games entering this matchup. The Jackets are coming off a 4-3 loss the the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. However, Columbus is still 6-4 in its last 10 games before this matchup.

Edmonton is coming off a ghastly 9-1 drubbing at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday evening. Goalie Stuart Skinner was pulled, and the wheels fell off for the Oilers in this game. Edmonton has dropped its last three games entering tonight’s game.

This edition of NHL predictions will take a look at the statistics and storylines heading into this Monday Night Hockey on Prime matchup.

The Blue Jackets Story

Columbus is in the middle of its Western road trip. The Blue Jackets were down by the Calgary Flames, 5-1, on November 5 in their last trip to the province. Calgary came out firing in Nazem Kadri‘s 1,000th career game to pick up the win.

Columbus played with plenty of emotion last season after the tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau. The Blue Jackets do play hard under second-year coach Dean Evanson. However, the team is still at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division.

Elvis Merzlikins is the expected starter for the Blue Jackets. However, always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy goalie starter. Kirill Marchenko leads in all top offensive categories, including goals (8), assists (8), and points (16).

The Oilers Story

Things got out of hand on Saturday night, as the Oilers suffered one of their worst losses in recent memory. Jack Drury‘s two-goal game powered the Avs to a comfortable victory.

The Oilers are the two-time defending Western Conference champions. However, they’ve got off to another notoriously slow start to the campaign. Edmonton has proven that it can pull itself out of a nosedive. However, the Oilers don’t want to get into too deep a hole.

Skinner is projected to get the start again, but the starter situation might be one to keep an eye on. The team might not name a starter until later in the day.

Prediction

Both teams need to get back on track after three-game losing streaks. Edmonton has a little more offensive firepower than Columbus. However, the Blue Jackets will make the hosts earn the two points.

We also need to keep an eye on the goalie matchup due to the struggles of both goalies so far this season. However, the Oilers get on the winning path.

Prediction: Oilers win 5-2.

Prop Bets of the Night

We close out this Monday Night Hockey edition of NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for this matchup is 6.5, and we like the over in this game.

As for individual props, go with Zach Werenski to get a power-play point for the Blue Jackets. On the Oilers’ side of things, go with Leon Draisaitl to get a power-play tally.
