One of the Philadelphia Flyers top prospects was in action this weekend in a box office NCAA hockey series. It was truly must-see TV. There was plenty to like from what the Flyers’ prospect showed throughout the weekend.

In their most recent game, nagging problems once again held the Flyers back from winning a very winnable game.

Around the league, the young stars are shining. Three of the league’s top-four point scorers are 20 years old or younger. The youth movement in the NHL is here, as the next generation of superstars is leading their teams.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: Flyers prospect Porter Martone and the top-ranked Michigan State Spartans faced off with Gavin McKenna and the then No. 3-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. It was box office hockey.

For the first time since he enrolled at Michigan State, I got the chance to watch a whole series of Martone hockey. There was plenty to like about the Flyers’ 2025 6th-overall pick. Martone looked like a pro the entire weekend, making it look like the Flyers made the right choice.

On Saturday, the Flyers fell 3-2 to the Ottawa Senators in overtime, as nagging problems held the team back in a very winnable game. The Flyers got scoring from Matvei Michkov and Jamie Drysdale, but it was not enough. Philly would get the game to overtime, but the Flyers could not hang on for the win.

NHL Rumors & News

Chicago Hockey Now: Connor Bedard has arrived. The 2024 Calder Trophy winner has not been a disappointment since entering the league, but now, we are seeing the young Blackhawks star take his game to a whole new level. Bedard (momentarily) shared the NHL scoring lead after another 4-point game, as he is evolving from star to superstar.

San Jose Hockey Now: Speaking of young superstars in the NHL, Macklin Celebrini keeps on rolling. Celebrini and the Sharks took down the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers in a 3-1 win on Sunday. The way Celebrini and Bedard have been playing, the future of the league is in good hands.

NHL.com: Let’s just keep this trend going. The Anaheim Ducks, a team primarily made of young talent with a sprinkle of veteran presence, are the hottest team in the league. One of their key contributors, Leo Carlsson, is riding a 10-game point streak and is now tied for 2nd in the league in points. Carlsson and the Ducks took down the Winnipeg Jets for their seventh-straight win.
