The 2025-26 season continues to be a nightmare for the Calgary Flames. After getting shutout for the second straight time last night, the Calgary Flames offence continues to cement itself at the bottom of the NHL. With just 35 goals scored through 17 games this year, the Flames simply can’t put the puck in the net.
As we enter the middle of November, the Flames offensive woes have gone from being a blip to being a serious issue. As it stands, the 2025-26 Calgary Flames possess the worst offence in franchise history.
The Flames offence is bottom of the league in goals
So far this season, the Calgary Flames offence have managed just 35 goals across 17 games, which is unsurprisingly the worst rate in the entire NHL. On most nights, scoring even two or three goals has been a major struggle for the Flames. Here’s how the bottom five offences in the NHL look so far this year. All numbers are courtesy of NHL.com.

At 2.06 goals per game, the Flames are barely scoring two goals on most nights. Across 17 games, they’ve managed to score at least three goals on just four occasions. They haven’t scored three goals in a game since October 30th when they lost in a shootout to the Senators.
They’ve also managed more than four goals just twice so far this season, which is tied for the worst total in the NHL with the Seattle Kraken. For context, the Ducks have scored four or more goals on 10 different occasions already this season.
The Flames have also been shutout twice this season, the second worst total behind only the dreadful Rangers who have somehow been shutout five times already in 2025-26. On five other occasions, they only scored one single goal. In other words, there’s a nearly 50% chance when you tune into a Flames game that you’ll only witness a single Flames goal.
Worst offence in franchise history
While it’s only been 17 games, the Flames are currently tracking to be the worst offence in Flames franchise history. As we enter the middle of November and the quarter mark on the season, a slow start isn’t an excuse anymore. This team is historically bad at scoring goals.

Yikes. The Flames are currently scoring at rates we haven’t seen since the dreaded “clutch and grab” era in the NHL. For context during the early 2000’s, the average goals scored in an NHL game hovered around the 2.5 to 2.75 mark. We haven’t seen an NHL goals per game mark below three goals since the 2020-21 season, and yet the Flames are still managing to produce at a historically bad rate despite how offensive the modern NHL game has become.
Even if things start to get back on track in he final three quarters of the season, the Flames will still be in tough not to finish as a bottom five offence in Flames history. This is a team that finished 29th in the NHL in goals last season with a rate of 2.68. Even if they turn it around, it isn’t going to be a magical improvement. This team has been terrible at scoring for over 12 months now and help isn’t coming.
One of the worst offences in NHL history
Forget Flames history, this team is so poor at putting the puck in the net that they’re currently sitting as one of the worst offences in modern NHL history. Dating back to the Flames first season in Calgary in 1980, here’s how their current offensive production ranks among every single team since then.

As it stands, the 2025-26 Calgary Flames are the 10th worst offensive team since 1980. 45 years of hockey and this current Ryan Huska offence is the 10th worst in that span. Again the sample size is much smaller than these other teams, but I haven’t seen any signs that this offence is ready to improve. They just suffered their first two shutouts of the season in their last two games. If anything its getting worse.
If the team does decide to sell off some assets, losing the likes of Nazem Kadri and Blake Coleman would rid the team of their two highest goal scorers right now. In other words, a terrible offence could still very much get even worse.
