The Grand Rapids Griffins’ lost their season launching eight-game winning streak and one of their goaltenders in the process.

Michal Postava suffered an injury in the Griffins’ 4-3 shootout road loss to the Chicago Wolves Sunday.  Postava’s status isn’t yet known, and that’s important because Sebastian Cossa was already out with a day-to-day injury.

The Griffins’ next game is the school day game Wednesday at 11 a.m. and we may have wait until that day to find out who is available to play in net.

Grand Rapids goalie injuries impact the Red Wings as well.  If John Gibson or Cam Talbot is hurt, either Cossa or Postava would be called up. If Postava is out for an extended period, it would be a disappointment. The Red Wings might have to shop for a veteran goalie.

The Griffins had called up Carter Gylander from the Toledo Walleye to replace Cossa. He entered the game at 8:17 of the first period when Czech player Postava was injured making a save. Gylander, a second -year pro, faced 25 shots and made 22 stops

Even with the shootout loss, the Griffins’ 8-0-0-1 record (.944 points percentage) after nine games represents the best start in franchise history.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, who started with the Red Wings before being sent to Grand Rapids, scored his first goal of the season. The power play tally tied the game 3-3 early in the third period. Amadeus Lombardi assisted on the play for his 10th assist in nine games.

All three of the Griffins’ goals came on the power play. John Leonard assisted on Sheldon Dries’ goal to extend his career-best points streak to eight games. Austin Watson netted the third power play goal. William Wallinder assisted on the goals
