The New York Rangers have plenty of decisions to make on their roster, but now, a roster crunch on their blue line may lead to the departure of Braden Schneider.
Last season was a nightmare for the New York Rangers, but coming into the 2025/26 campaign, the roster had much more clarity, with the team hoping to once again return to Stanley Cup Playoffs contention.
Unfortunately for New York, they’ve been the NHL’s worst team on home ice thus far, and while there’s plenty of games remaining, things aren’t looking good for them at this point in time.
Rangers May Trade Braden Schneider Due To Roster Constraints
Now, speculation has emerged over the future of one of their more intriguing young players, as there have been reports on social media from Rangers analysts that the team may be forced to trade talented blue liner Braden Schneider.
This move would make sense too, as the Rangers are set on Schneider’s more comfortable right side with Adam Fox and Will Borgen, and with Scott Morrow there as well, the team haven’t been comfortable playing him on the left, meaning there’s just no way to get the 24-year old in an ideal role. These calls come after they signed Schneider to a two-year deal in the summer of 2024, and with the former first-round pick set for RFA status this coming off-season, it’s in the best interest of both parties to move him now.
In 16 games this year, Schneider has tallied 1 goal and 4 points, and while he remains a talented, promising young player, the Rangers simply don’t have room for him, and if they can get a solid asset in return, moving him ahead of the 2026 trade deadline makes perfect sense.
