Home games were a strength throughout the year, highlighted by a 2‑0 win over Michigan State. Unfortunately, the team faced challenges on the road against top‑ranked opponents, ending the Nittany Lions’ season early.

Defense and goalkeeping were stellar all year, with seniors like Sophia Mannino and Madison Tambroni earning league recognition and the team recording several shutouts despite overall record struggles.

The 2025 season opened at home against Delaware, showcasing quick passing in midfield, strong defensive positioning, and freshman scoring bursts as the team kicked off its campaign.

The win later in the season against Saint Joseph’s marked the second overtime triumph in two days, underscoring their resiliency and ability to lock down defensively in the extra period when tested.

Players wore pink and black jerseys as part of the program’s ongoing tradition of showcasing Nittany Lion pride and school spirit.

The special jerseys highlighted team unity and Penn State heritage, adding significance to the double-overtime win over Iowa on October 17.

Throughout the season, freshman forward Olivia Marthins emerged as a key performer in her unassisted breakaway for the MSU goal and the double-OT winner vs Iowa, among numerous other feats.

Ella Jennes consistently energized Penn State’s offense, creating scoring opportunities, pressuring defenses, and contributing key goals.

Meanwhile, Aby Deverka anchored the backline as the team’s starting goalkeeper, making crucial saves in tight matches and helping Penn State remain competitive in every contest, particularly in overtime and close-score situations.

On the sidelines, a happy dog and a wide-eyed baby chipmunk cheered the Nittany Lions like true superfans, proving even furry friends can’t resist a good field hockey match.

The 2025 season closed out with a Halloween heartbreaker at home against Rutgers, falling 4‑2. The game captured the spirit of the season: tenacious, hard-fought, and full of heart, even if it ended just shy of the win.
