The Buffalo Sabres are letting two of their players take a leave of absence and will miss some significant time, and rightfully so. Both are emergency situations.
It is cool to see major organizations and professional sports give time off to their players. We glorify these teams sometimes and it seems like we forget that they have a family that counts on them, too and they need to not go to work sometimes to take care of them or themselves.
The 2 Buffalo Sabres players that will be taking some time off are:
Jiri Kulich who has a very scary situation going on–where the Sabres don’t know if he will even be back this year. “It’s related to a blood clot that was found,” Ruff said on the Sabres website. “I’m not gonna go any further into detail, but pretty serious.” If everything goes according to plan the next month in terms of his health, he will be rechecked and accessed if he can come back this season.

In addition to Jiri taking time off, Rasmus Dahlin is also taking a leave of absence, but the Buffalo Sabres expected this in the beginning of the season as his finace is recovering from major surgery. Dahlin and his finace over the summer were vacationing and then she suddenly wasn’t feeling good and she became unresponsive and on life support. Dahlin posted a message to fans about what happened before the season started. Now, everything seems to be going in the right direction after her heart transplant, but there is no time line on when Dahlin will be back.
He did mention that he is staying in shape and skating with a team in Sweden for the time being.
