STOCKHOLM — From a glorious little ice rink built in 1955 surrounded by the old-world charm and European style of Stockholm, the Pittsburgh Penguins will practice at 8 a.m. EST and 2 p.m. local time. The team had scheduled practice for 12:30 p.m., but nobody was getting out of Pittsburgh on time yesterday. Pittsburgh Hockey Now is front and center in Sweden, so follow along on X and here.

In the Daily, we have some love for Ben Kindel, a fierce debate brewing for the 2026 NHL Hall of Fame class, more NHL trade winds blowing off the shores of Nazem Kadri, but the Montreal Canadiens might be off the market for a second-line center.

I had a couple of stories planned for Monday, but the travel chaos and lack of Wifi submarined me. So…I slept on the transcontinental flight. In between winks of sleep, I was trying to get a good look at the bloke’s watch in the middle seat next to me. It was pretty spectacular, then I realized it was a Patek Philippe (those start at the cost of a small house. But in that moment, I would not have traded him for the middle seat!).

No jet lag yet. My first impression of Stockholm is very Montreal-esque. We’ll get to exploring after practice.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: I was impressed by Sergei Murashov not only in the game but also after the game. Check out his wry little joke and the players’ heaping praise on him in the Penguins locker room.

Shelly went there. If she didn’t, I would have. There are some fantastic rookies in the NHL this season, but it’s time for the Calder Trophy conversation to include Ben Kindel.

Steelers Now: I think Alan Saunders absolutely nails it. The bruising battle of the 2025 NFL season is revealing more and more issues within the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Here we go, it’s time to predict some free agents for our penny-pinching Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fans, it’s time to start gathering on Federal Street. Support the businesses in our area, but not the owner. More rants forthcoming later.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

TSN Video: The 2026 Hockey Hall of Fame class has one too many great candidates. No, Phil Kessel won’t get in, yet. He’s the first big name out of the running. But there’s a great debate about who else gets in, and Craig Button sets the stage for the 2026 vote.

Eric Staal over Hernik Zetterberg? That’s the way I’m leaning … I think.

Montreal Gazette: The venerable Stu Cowan reports the Montreal Canadiens might pull back from their search for a second-line center because of Oliver Kapanen. Are the Habs off the NHL trade block?

Sportsnet: Nazem Kadri is becoming an even hotter target on the trade block. I mean, duh. But here’s what’s going on and why the market is growing.

Philly Hockey Now: There was a little (or a lot) of a social media kerfuffle when Sean Couturier called out Matvei Michkov. Will James sets the scene and the situation straight–what really happened within the Philadelphia Flyers.

Florida Hockey Now: The rat gets the cheese. After being there for his friend in an extraordinary moment of crisis, Marchand has returned with a vengeance for the Florida Panthers.

Vegas Hockey Now: While we are on the topic of the Panthers, they were inoculated against the Vegas flu and laid waste to their glitzy hosts. Hannah Kirkell breaks down the breakdown of the breaking down Vegas Golden Knights.

Chicago Hockey Now: He should have gone to Worlds (here in Sweden). As the bubble candidates scrap to make Team Canada, it looks like Macklin Celebrini has a clear edge–is that OK that Canada snubs Connor Bedard?
