During the first intermission of the San Jose Sharks vs. Minnesota Wild game on ESPN+, Emily Kaplan reported an update on Macklin Celebrini’s chances at making Team Canada.

According to Kaplan, both players remain in contention to make Team Canada’s roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Kaplan added that the Sharks’ centerman has more of an “inside track” to make Canada over Bedard.

Following the recent GM Meetings at the 2025 Hockey Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, reports have emerged indicating that Canada has narrowed its list of potential players down to 35-40.

“Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong emerged from the meeting Monday to say his management group is down to between 35 and 40 players on its list. The group was just over 90 back in September, before the NHL season began,” Pierre LeBrun wrote in a story on The Athletic.

Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong told LeBrun that the Canadian management group is excited to see how Bedard and Celebrini continue to push.

“Those are just two young players that are really pushing. We’re excited to watch them play now,” Armstrong said about Bedard and the San Jose Sharks center.

Olympic rosters must be officially submitted by December 31, and official announcements will happen around New Year’s Day.
