Let the speculation start.

When Thatcher Demko was spotted stretching during a first-period television commercial break, and didn’t return to the net or the bench in the second period Tuesday at Rogers Arena, it was obvious that something isn’t quite right.

He allowed three goals on eight shots before calling it an early night and there was some thought he didn’t look comfortable during the pre-game warm-up and that something may be amiss.

Kevin Lankinen took over the goaltending duties, and with a three-game road trip starting Friday in Carolina, the Vancouver Canucks are once again in a crease conundrum. Is Demko hurt again? It takes something significant for the starter to pull himself.

Demko didn’t play the previous three games because he needed rest to ensure he would be ready to resume the condensed schedule grind. He skated Sunday and head coach Adam Foote said he was good to go against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday in an anticipated goaltending duel with Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck.

Demko is 5-4-0 this season with a 2.57 goals-against average and .912 saves percentage.
