San Jose Sharks goalie Alex Nedeljkovic was supposed to start against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, but didn’t.

Yaroslav Askarov helped the Sharks to a 2-1 victory over the Wild, making 28 saves for the team’s 4th straight win. According to Sheng Peng, Nedeljkovic is headed home to deal with a personal matter.

Nedeljkovic has a personal matter to attend to, he’s going to head back home after this game.

Thoughts with Alex. That’s why Askarov got the late start— Sheng Peng (@Sheng_Peng) November 12, 2025

The Sharks haven’t made their official move to replace Nedeljkovic, and they may not have to. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters postgame that he doesn’t expect Nedeljkovic to be out long.

The San Jose Sharks will visit the Calgary Flames on Thursday and then complete their three-game road trip on Saturday against the Seattle Kraken. Askarov could be in for an extended run of starts as the Sharks don’t have any back-to-backs until Saturday, Nov. 22-23.

If the Sharks call up a goalie from the San Jose Barracuda, it could be under emergency conditions. An emergency recall is effectively a free recall due to the Sharks’ roster not being able to meet the positional requirements. In this case, the Sharks wouldn’t have two goalies on their roster.

Jakub Skarek could be the choice of recall for the San Jose Sharks if Nedeljkovic misses extended time. In six games with the ‘Cuda this season, Skarek has a 4-2 record, including a shutout in Tuesday’s 7-0 win over the Abbotsford Canucks.

Top prospect Igor Chernyshov scored a hat trick in the victory.
