The Canadiens lost 5-1 to the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday night at the Bell Centre in what might have been their worst game of the season.
The Canadiens were still sitting in first place in the Atlantic Division after the loss, with a 10-4-2 record, but there were some signs of concern in the loss to a veteran-laden Kings team that showed its experience and made the Canadiens look disorganized.
On this week’s Hockey Inside/Out Show, The Gazette’s Stu Cowan is joined by former Canadiens teammates and 1986 Stanley Cup champions Rick Green and Brian Skrudland, who is sitting in for Chris Nilan this week.
They discuss the loss to the Kings and Martin St. Louis’s decision to stick with Samuel Montembeault as his No. 1 goalie, even though his record fell to 4-4-1 with a 3.52 goals-against average and an .861 save percentage after the loss to the Kings, while Jakub Dobes has a 6-0-1 record with a 2.25 GAA and a .920 save percentage.
The panel also discusses Dobes shedding tears after his last start — a 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils — and what his teammates might think about that.
Green and Skrudland also weigh in on what they like most about St. Louis’s coaching style and whether there should be concern that Jake Evans has a team-worst minus-9 differential as a defensive-minded centre.
That’s a role Skrudland played during his 15-year NHL career and he and Green give their thoughts on the plus/minus statistic.
