With injuries plaguing the Detroit Red Wings organization’s goaltenders, the team could fortify the crease by adding a goaltender placed on waivers Wednesday by the New York Rangers.

Instead of running Gylander into the ground, the team will need to look for other options to ensure enough depth is present to cover the absence of both Postava and Cossa.

One intriguing option would be goaltender Spencer Martin, who’s become a journeyman in the NHL and AHL, serving as a goalie for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes the last two seasons.

The Detroit Red Wings could claim Spencer Martin

It had seemed his time in the NHL had expired, as he went overseas to continue to play professional hockey in the KHL with the CSKA Moscow HC.

He finished his time in the KHL with a 2.69 GAA and a .905 save percentage.

A serviceable goalie by any means.

The only question is, will Steve Yzerman find a way to claim Martin and give the Grand Rapids Griffins a solid backup to Carter Gylander?
