SAGINAW, Mich. (WJRT) – Downtown Saginaw is buzzing with excitement for the opening of a new hockey-themed restaurant and bar.

Gordie’s Bar, named in part to honor Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe, is set to officially open next month. It will be located at the corner of Genesee and Washington avenues in the heart of downtown Saginaw.

The last business in this location closed in 2019. Owner Ben Hyatt and marketing manager Bostyn Drapp have been preparing the space since January.

“Just some phenomenal talent being brought into the Temple Theatre, the Dow Event Center, so the fun part for us is we get to cater that to each and every event,” said Hyatt.

The menu at Gordie’s Bar will feature what Hyatt describes as “elevated bar food.” A soft opening is planned for Nov. 26, the night before Thanksgiving, which is known as one of the busiest nights of the year for bars.

“It’s pretty emotional pretty exciting to get to this point and see the light at the end of the tunnel and get ready to open for Saginaw,” Hyatt said.

Gordie’s Bar will officially open on Dec. 1 and operate seven days per week.
