Insiders weren’t kidding when they said Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens are aiming to acquire a big fish.

Kent Hughes is attempting to acquire Tage Thompson

According to D’Amico, Thompson is not available, for now!

It’s worth noting that the Sabres are currently one of the bottom three teams in the National Hockey League (once again), and they could very well consider a major sell-off, especially since a player like Thompson is clearly hungry for wins right now.

That said, the Canadiens aren’t the only ones in the mix:

“According to the journalist, despite the Canadiens’ interest – as well as that of other teams like the Vancouver Canucks in the towering center – GM Kevyn Adams reportedly responded that, for now, Thompson is not available for trade.”

– Marco Normandin

This will be a major situation to monitor, especially if the Sabres keep losing!

If the Montreal Canadiens do manage to land a big-name player like Tage Thompson, two names have been mentioned as potential pieces going the other way to Buffalo in such a trade: Michael Hage and David Reinbacher.

Tage Thompson, 28, is a 6-foot-6, 220-pound center and a former first-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2016.

He’s recorded 12 points in 15 games this season after putting up an impressive 72 points in 76 games last year – including 44 goals!
