The Colorado Avalanche and forward Gavin Brindley have agreed to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday. Brindley was set to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season, but this deal now keeps him in Colorado through the 2027-28 season.

Brindley will be making an average of $875,000 per year, with $850,000 in 2026-27 and $900,000 in 2027-28. The annual salary in each of the three years of his first contract was $950,000, so the Avs found a way to slightly decrease the price tag.

Brindley made his way to Denver from Columbus this year, as he was part of the Charlie Coyle/Miles Wood salary dump trade that gave the burgundy and blue more salary cap flexibility. Through the first month of the season, he’s been much more important than just some trade filler.

The 21-year-old has appeared in 14 games for the top-seeded Avalanche this season and has recorded three goals and two assists as a winger on the fourth line. When on the ice, he’s been a +2 in terms of goal differential.

His third and most recent goal was one of the most important shots of the season thus far for the Avs, as he collected the rebound off his own shot and put the game-winning goal in the back of the net in overtime against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.

After that goal, Avs head coach Jared Bednar said that he thought the young winger was one of the team’s best players on the ice that night, high praise for a young guy who’s playing alongside some of the most talented players in the world.

This is an important deal for the Avalanche, as they now have a key bottom-six player locked in for the next couple of seasons, which are set to be some of the most important in franchise history given that the core is aging every single year.
