Dreger notes that if he clears waivers tomorrow, he can sign with another NHL club.

The 30-year-old Kampf has been away from the team pondering his future after starting the 2025-26 season in the AHL. He was waived at the beginning of the season and was sent to the Toronto Marlies. He played in four games with the team, recording one assist.

He is in the third season of a four-year, $9.6 million contract that carries an AAV of $2.4 million.

An undrafted free agent, Kampf signed a two-year, entry-level contract in May of 2017 with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he spent four seasons before joining the Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2021 on a two-year deal.

After tallying 26 and 27 points in his first two years in Toronto, Kampf inked the four-year extension in June of 2023.

Kampf struggled in 2024-25, his first under head coach Craig Berube. He scored five goals with 13 points in 59 games while averaging a career-low 12:24 of ice time. He skated in just one playoff game, a 6-1 loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of the second round.
