The Detroit Red Wings will give another chance to one of their goaltenders to beat his former organization on Thursday night.

The Anaheim Ducks are one of the teams that have made the biggest strides since the season started.

They went from being among the lowest-ranked teams last season to being at the top of their division.

Their young core has taken a massive step forward, helping the Ducks start the season on a high note with an 11-4-1 record.

Head coach Todd McLellan announced who would get the start between the pipes for that game in a press conference.

The last time around, the Ducks had the upper hand, a disappointing loss for the whole team, but even more so for John Gibson.

The goalie, acquired from the Ducks by Steve Yzerman in the offseason, couldn’t hold his own against his former team, allowing five goals on 31 shots in a 5-2 loss.

Even though most expected Talbot to get the nod against the Ducks, Todd McLellan confirmed that Gibson will get one more opportunity to beat the team that drafted him 39th overall in 2011.

In nine games this season with the Red Wings, Gibson, 32, has four wins, a 3.15 GAA, and a .882 SV%.

The game will be crucial for the Wings tonight. If they lose in regulation time and both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers win, the team would fall to 7th place in the Atlantic Division.

After three straight losses and a revamped lineup, it’ll be interesting to see how the team performs tonight.

Stay tuned for updates ahead of the game.
