Rasmus Andersson has long been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but now Elliotte Friedman has revealed the roadblock in a possible deal with Calgary.
The Calgary Flames are set to be the NHL’s biggest sellers at the trade deadline after their poor 4-12-2 start to the 2025/26 season has them sitting in 32nd in the overall NHL standings.
The biggest trade assets this team has is the veteran duo of Nazem Kadri and Rasmus Andersson, with the latter recently being revealed as a top trade target of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Friedman reveals the relationship with Brad Treliving could stop a trade
This isn’t the first time he’s been linked to Toronto, as Elliotte Friedman and other top NHL Insiders have revealed that the Maple Leafs were targeting No. 4 at the 2025 trade deadline as well.
However, the thing that stopped a deal back then is still holding them back now, with Friedman reporting that the sour relationship with Brad Treliving and his former team will potentially hold a deal between the two organizations from coming together on a trade. It’s unclear if things have improved between Treliving and the Flames since his departure, but over the years since, we’ve seen them linked to Chris Tanev, Noah Hanifin and Nikita Zadorov, with none of those deals coming to fruition.
Simply put, there are many roadblocks to a potential deal here, with the biggest being the sour relationship between Treliving and the Flames meaning it’s unlikely to get a deal done, but even if they can get past that, it’s more likely than not that another team could and would easily outbid Toronto on Andersson.
