DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings desperately needed to solve their power play issues, end their scoring drought, shore up their penalty kill and most of all, find a way to win.
They accomplished all of the above with a 6-3 victory Thursday over the Anaheim Ducks at Little Caesars Arena to snap a three-game losing streak.
Moritz Seider and Alex DeBrincat scored power-play goals after the team had gone 0 for 13 in its previous four games and 1 for 20 over five games. Michael Rasmussen, Alex Sandin-Pellikka and Dylan Larkin scored at even strength for a team that had netted two goals in three games and six goals in its previous five games.
DeBrincat scored an empty-net goal, his sixth of the season, with 2:01 remaining.
Goaltender John Gibson left the game after the second period with an injury that even prevented him from watching from the bench. Cam Talbot stopped 10-of-11 shots in the third period to preserve the win. The Red Wings never trailed in improving to 10-7-0. The Ducks fell to 11-5-1.
DeBrincat tipped in a shot by Seider just five seconds into a power play at the 50-second mark of the third period to put his team ahead 4-2.
The Ducks, as they did in the second period, responded quickly, getting a goal from Mikael Granlund at 4:33.
Larkin answered swiftly, tallying his team-leading 10th goal at 5:06 by converting on a two-on-0 with Lucas Raymond. Raymond, Jonatan Berggren and Patrick Kane each contributed a pair of assists.
The teams combined for five goals in the second period, following a scoreless first, and the Red Wings led 3-2 at the second intermission.
Seider scored his second of the season on a shot from the high slot through traffic on the power play at 5:57.
Cutter Gauthier converted during a two-on-one at 7:35, as Albert Johansson was caught pinching.
Rasmussen whipped in a shot at 12:42, his second goal of the season. The Ducks tied it again when Chris Kreider scored at 14:54, on a quick transition following a neutral-zone turnover.
Sandin-Pellikka notched his second of the season with a shot from the point through traffic to give the Red Wings a 3-2 lead at 15:33, one they didn’t relinquish.
The Red Wings wrap up a four-game homestand Saturday against the Buffalo Sabres (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network).
