San Jose Sharks forward Jeff Skinner will not return to tonight’s game against the Calgary Flames.

The Sharks winger suffered what appeared to be a right leg injury after crashing into the boards awkwardly. He fell feet first into the boards, and play was stopped with Skinner lying on the ice in pain.

While being helped off the ice, Skinner could not put any weight on his right leg. The injury occurred during his first shift of the game. Skinner played 42 seconds before the San Jose Sharks were forced to play with 11 forwards.

Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky will likely provide an update following the game. In 17 games this season, Skinner has four goals and three assists. He’s often found himself on the team’s second power play unit and third line.

Adam Gaudette took the following few shifts in Skinner’s vacated spot, moving up from the fourth line center position. Warsofsky rotated Macklin Celebrini and Ty Dellandrea on the fourth line as another adjustment while down a man.
