Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg Jets defenceman Dylan Samberg will make his season debut on Thursday against the Seattle Kraken.

Samberg skated alongside Neal Pionk in the second pairing on defence for the Jets in practice on Thursday.

The 26-year-old skated in 60 games a season ago, where he scored six goals and finished with 20 points. He also played in 13 games in the post-season, where he recorded three assists.

The Jets snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-3. Winnipeg enters Thursday’s action third in the Central Division standings at 10-6-0.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki participated in morning skate on Thursday after the team announced that the 26-year-old was given a therapy day on Wednesday.

Suzuki missed a pair of practices last week while nursing a foot injury, but logged 18:12 of ice time in a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings

The London, Ont. native has played in 471 consecutive games since entering the league during the 2019-20 season, and holds the second-longest active ironman streak behind Colorado Avalanche defenceman Brent Burns (942).

Suzuki has scored four goals in 16 games played this season, and leads all Montreal skaters in points (20) and assists (16).

Toronto Maple Leafs

Star forward Auston Matthews will miss at least one week with a lower-body injury, according to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported earlier Thursday that the injury to Matthews was not considered serious.

Matthews left Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins in the second period after taking a hit from Nikita Zadorov that sent him into the boards. However, head coach Craig Berube acknowledged he was not sure if Matthews suffered the injury on the hit.

Additionally, the Maple Leafs placed forward Scott Laughton on IR on Thursday, retroactive to Nov. 8, with an upper-body injury.

Laughton was spotted on the ice before practice getting in early work on Thursday, per David Alter of The Hockey News.

Laughton absorbed a massive hit from Bruins defenceman Zadorov in a game on Saturday while attempting to play the puck up the ice in the Leafs’ defensive zone. He appeared to be shaken up and immediately skated off the ice towards the bench.

That was just Laughton’s second appearance of the young season for the Maple Leafs, after he missed the first 13 games of the campaign recovering from a lower-body injury suffered in pre-season.

The Maple Leafs skated the following lines in practice on Thursday:

Knies – Tavares – Nylander

Robertson – Domi – McMann

Joshua – Roy – Maccelli

Blais – Lorentz – Jarnkrok

Rielly – Carlo

Benoit – McCabe

Mermis – Ekman-Larsson

Columbus Blue Jackets

Columbus Blue Jackets forward and captain Boone Jenner appears to be dealing with a significant injury after departing the team’s 2-1 overtime victory on Tuesday.

Jenner suffered an apparent upper-body injury, and Blue Jackets head coach Dean Evason spoke about the injury at practice on Thursday, simply describing it as “not short term,” according to The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline.

Jenner. 32, has struggled to stay healthy in recent years. He’s exceeded 60 games in a season just once over the past five campaigns (68 in 2022-23), and played in only 26 games last year.

In 16 games this season, the Dorchester, Ont. native has three goals and 10 points.

Calgary Flames

Forward Yegor Sharangovich is expected to be a healthy scratch for the team’s game against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.
