Goaltender Artur Akhtyamov was recalled in a corresponding move, with G Anthony Stolarz also nursing an upper-body injury that occurred in Tuesday’s 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins.

Laughton was spotted on the ice before practice getting in early work on Thursday, per David Alter of The Hockey News.

Laughton absorbed a massive hit from Bruins defenceman Nikita Zadorov in a game on Saturday while attempting to play the puck up the ice in the Leafs’ defensive zone. He appeared to be shaken up and immediately skated off the ice towards the bench.

That was just Laughton’s second appearance of the young season for the Maple Leafs, after he missed the first 13 games of the campaign recovering from a lower-body injury suffered in pre-season. The Maple Leafs acquired Laughton in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers at last year’s deadline, and he has registered just six points in 34 games (including last year’s playoffs) with Toronto.

Prior to departing with the injury, Laughton had recorded one blocked shot and four hits in 6:13 of ice time.

The Maple Leafs will take on the Los Angeles Kings at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto in their next game on Thursday night.
