In Tuesday night’s game versus the Dallas Stars, the Ottawa Senators played over 40 minutes with five defenceman. Today, we are here to bring you an injury update on Thomas Chabot, who left late in the first period of that game. Chabot came out with the club for warmups before the start of the second period, but was unable to go.

As mentioned on Question Period on @TSNHockey , my sense is the timeline for Thomas Chabot is two weeks maybe more. Steve Staios did say today that’s confident Chabot would beat any timeline the club was given #Sens

Ottawa Senator Defenceman Thomas Chabot’s Injury Update

At this time, the team has remained cautious on the timeline for Chabot. However, according to Bruce Garrioch, it does appear to be about a two-week timetable. Luckily, there is some sense it won’t end up being that long.

Another injury occurred last night versus the Boston Bruins as well. Nick Jensen ended up leaving the game early, again forcing the Sens to five d-men. There hasn’t been an update yet on Jensen, so his status for tomorrow’s game against the Los Angeles Kings remains unknown. One good bit of injury news, is on Jake Sanderson. He had briefly gone to the dressing room against Boston, after blocking a shot with the palm of his hand. However, he skated today and anticipates being in the lineup for Saturday’s contest.

Internal Options for Ottawa

So, with all this uncertainty, including being down to two, left-shot NHL defencemen, it is a wonder what the Sens will do. Leaning on Garrioch’s thoughts, he suggested Lassi Thomson might get called up. Moreover, he went into detail that it might be Carter Yakemchuk’s time. In 13 games for the AHL’s Belleville Senators thus far, he is already up to eight points. Even back to the fall of 2024, many observers suggested he was close to the NHL, at that time.

However, this reporter seems to lean on the fact, they might want a left-shot d-man brought up. Jorian Donovan would be the front-runner in that regard. Like Yakemchuk, he has yet to make his NHL debut. Unlike Yakemchuk, however, he does have a full season of professional hockey under his belt. He’s up to seven points for Belleville on the young campaign.

Whatever the Sens decide to do, it will be a test for the squad that has been playing well. It seems defensively, on the penalty kill and in net, they have been improving their play. Overall the Sens are 7-1-3 in their last 11 as they are set to take on LA on Saturday.

The #Sens will decide later today if they need to recall a defencemen. Will evaluate after Nick Jensen skates. Jake Sanderson is fine and will play tomorrow. Thomas Chabot won’t play tomorrow.
