The Edmonton Oilers placed a defenseman on waivers who could replace Travis Hamonic in the Detroit Red Wings organization.
Bernard-Docker played well, ending the night with a +1 +/- with under 15 minutes of ice time.
If he keeps playing like that, it’ll be hard for Todd McLellan to replace him with Hamonic in the lineup.
But the truth is Hamonic could still be useful for the Red Wings. In case of injuries, the team will be able to count on someone without being forced to call someone up from the AHL.
In a new development, the Oilers placed a player on waivers who could replace Hamonic in Detroit.
Edmonton Oilers Place Former Red Wings Defenseman On Waivers
Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers announced today that they placed the defenseman Troy Stecher on waivers after they spent the past few weeks trying to trade him.
Stecher, 31, hasn’t added his name to the scoresheet so far this season, in six games with the Oilers.
The undrafted five-foot-ten defenseman took part in 566 NHL games in his career.
He notably played for the Wings in 2020-21 before getting traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 2022.
He also played for the Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, and Calgary Flames in addition to the Red Wings, Kings, and Oilers.
He could be an upgrade from Hamonic as the seventh defenseman in case of injuries, but it wouldn’t exactly fit Steve Yzerman’s management style to claim him.
