The San Jose Sharks wrap up the team’s three-game road trip tonight with a visit to the Seattle Kraken. This is the second time the two teams will play in just over a week. The last time the Sharks were in Seattle, on Nov. 5, San Jose lit up the Kraken, scoring five unanswered goals. The Kraken are, understandably, looking to avenge that loss. It’s the lone regulation loss in the team’s 5-1-3 home record.

Much like the Sharks, Seattle has been gobbling up points recently, going 5-2-3 in its last ten games and earning 13 of a possible 20 points. The Sharks have been even better, going 7-2-1 in the last ten games and earning 15 of a possible 20 points.

This is the second of three meetings between the Kraken and the Sharks. The two teams will play once more after tonight, in San Jose on Dec. 20. After that, that’s it for the division series between these two Pacific Division teams unless they both end up in the playoffs.

On the Seattle side of the ice, there are a few injuries to key players. Kappo Kakko is day-to-day and is questionable for tonight’s game. Starting netminder Joey Daccord suffered an upper-body injury a week ago and was placed on the injured reserve list. Head Coach Lane Lambert says that Daccord is day-to-day and he’s being “constantly monitored.” It’s worth noting that it was Daccord in the net when the Sharks last played the Kraken.

In the absence of Daccord, the Sharks will likely face backup Matt Murray. Murray and Philipp Grubauer have alternated starts since Daccord was injured. In his two games since Daccord went down, Murray has played really well, even though he didn’t get the wins. He had a .920 save percentage against Dallas on Nov. 9 and a .971 save percentage against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Nov. 11. Meantime, Grubauer has won both the games he started simply because he received the run support he needed. He had a .842 save percentage in his win over the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 8 and a .885 save percentage in his win over the Winnipeg Jets on Nov. 13.

Seattle’s top scorer is Jordan Eberle, who has 13 points in 17 games. Jaden Schwartz and Vince Dunn are close behind with 12 points each. Eberle is also the team’s top goal scorer with seven.

Special teams may come into play tonight. Both power plays are middling. San Jose’s ranks 19th in the league while Seattle’s ranks 18th. In terms of penalty kill, San Jose’s is a bit better after a rough start to the season. It’s now 23rd in the NHL with a 76.7% kill rate. Seattle’s is 30th in the NHL with a 69.6% kill rate.

As for what’s happening with the Sharks, John Klingberg has not practiced with the team since going into the boards and leaving the game in Minnesota. Klingberg was placed on injured reserve this morning and the Sharks have called up Zack Ostapchuk from the Barracuda, so expect to see him in the lineup tonight.
