Despite his best efforts, the Detroit Red Wings have ended the professional tryout of Michigan native Nolan Moyle, sending him back to the ECHL.

His NHL dream may be dead for now, but he can still work his way back up the ranks.

Moyle played two games in his short stint with the Griffins and played against the Toronto Marlies with 2 penalty minutes and a -1 rating.

While his effort was valiant, it appears he will need to continue to develop his game in the ECHL with the Walleye, where he’d scored 8 points (4-4) in 7 games.

Moyle’s accustomed to playing postseason hockey, where he’d play 20 games of playoff hockey with the Toledo Walleye, helping them to the Kelly Cup finals.

In that time frame, he scored 5 points (5 A) after scoring 15 points (6-9) in 32 regular-season games with the ECHL club.

It’s a disappointing development for the former Michigan Wolverines captain, who is a two-time Big Ten champion; he’ll have to work harder to earn another shot in the future.

Moyle played a total of 46 points (24-22) and 156 penalty minutes in 164 games with the Wolverines.

He began his journey to a professional hockey career with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers in 2016-18, scoring 60 points (24-36) in 116 games.
