Penguins vs. Predators: The matchup
The Predators handed the Pens their third straight loss in Friday night’s matchup in Stockholm, as Steven Stamkos netted the game-winner less than a minute into overtime to lift his team to a 2-1 win. The setback continued a rocky stretch for Pittsburgh where the team has lost five of six games to slip into third place in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division with a 9-5-4 overall record. All four of the Penguins’ overtime losses this season have come in their past 10 games, pushing their season record in OT contests to 0-4.
The Predators generated a much-needed dose of forward momentum with Friday’s win, which snapped a six-game losing streak. Nashville goes into Sunday in a tie for last place in the Western Conference’s Central Division with a 6-9-4 record while losing eight of its past nine games. Filip Forsberg forced overtime with an unassisted goal at the 18:50 mark of the third period, and Stamkos netted the game-winner in OT to complete the comeback.
