The Nashville Predators lost 4-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins at Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden on Nov. 16.

The two-game NHL Global Series ends in a split and each team will now head back to North America.

The Penguins built a commanding 3-0 lead in the first period on goals by Parker Wotherspoon, Evgeni Malkin, and Sidney Crosby. Pittsburgh dominated the first period, holding Nashville to just two shots.

In the second and third, it was more of the same from Nashville’s offense. Though they finished with more shots, they were easy for goaltender Sergey Murashov to handle, with the Penguins sitting back in their own zone after building a big lead. He finished with 21 saves and his first career win on his first career shutout.

Blake Lizotte added an empty net goal with 2:48 left to make it a 4-0 final for Pittsburgh.

Next up, Nashville (6-10-4, 16 points) will face the Colorado Avalanche on Nov. 22. Pittsburgh (10-5-4, 24 points) will face the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 21.

The Predators fought back (literally) in the second period, but couldn’t get on the scoreboard. Three failed power plays, including a 5-on-3 chance, really hurt their chance to make it a game.

Towards the end of the second, there were some post-whistle shenanigans. Michael McCarron and Ryan Graves nearly dropped the gloves, then at the end Sidney Crosby got into it with Luke Evangelista.

As Nashville works to get back in the game, it appeared they scored on a scramble play in front while on the power play. But officials immediately ruled it no goal, deeming in. goaltender interference.

On the replay, it appears the puck is loose in the blue ice and Filip Forsberg pokes it into the net before the whistle blew. But Andrew Brunette declined to challenge the call, so apparently it was close enough to not take the risk.

It was truly all Penguins in the first 20 minutes. Wotherspoon, Malkin, and Crosby all scored to build a 3-0 lead, but it could have been worse. Pittsburgh leads in shots 11-2 and were in complete control of the puck.

Nashville has a huge hill to climb just to get back in the game.

Similar to the first game, Evgeni Malkin scored from below the goal line, this time banking the puck off Nic Hague’s skate. Then, just over two minutes later, Sidney Crosby scored on a wrist shot from the left circle.

Just a terrible start for Nashville. The Predators can hardly get possession of the puck at this point, Penguins lead 10-2 in shots and 3-0 in goals.

At the 2:17 mark of the first period, Parker Wotherspoon launched a long wrist shot to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. The shot didn’t have much on it, but it snuck around Juuse Saros’ left shoulder into the net.

Not a great start for Nashville.

The Predators will go with Juuse Saros in net again. He made 16 saves in the win on Nov. 14.

The Penguins will counter with 21-year-old Sergey Murashov, who is making just his second NHL start. He stopped 24 shots in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 9.

Once again, the Predators will go with 11 forwards and seven defensemen in the lineup against the Penguins in Stockholm:

Forwards:

Filip Forsberg – Ryan O’Reilly – Luke Evangelista

Steven Stamkos – Erik Haula – Jonathan Marchessault

Michael Bunting – Fedor Svechkov – Matthew Wood

Michael McCarron – Ozzy Wiesblatt

Defense:

Nicolas Hague – Nick Blankenburg

Spencer Stastney – Justin Barron

Adam Wilsby
