Overtime continues to be a boogeyman for the 2025-26 Vegas Golden Knights.
On Sunday, the Golden Knights dropped their sixth of seven overtime games this season, falling to the Minnesota Wild 3-2 at Grand Casino Arena.
The first five minutes were a far cry from what they were in St. Louis, and the Wild cashed in first. Mats Zuccarello put Vegas goaltender Carl Lindbom well out of position, and the veteran took advantage by finding Joel Eriksson Ek for an easy first goal of the game.
The Golden Knights would find their way back, however, thanks to a power play that has seemed to find its rhythm again. Mitch Marner found some room to skate with the puck, firing a shot at Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson. The rebound found Pavel Dorofeyev all alone, and he made no mistake at close range for his 11th goal of the season.
Midway through the second period, the Wild took advantage of another mistake from Lindbom. A bad bounce got the best of the rookie netminder, and Yakov Trenin was able to get his first goal of the season to give Minnesota the lead again.
Needing a push in the third period, the Golden Knights would capitalize on the power play once again. This time, Reilly Smith would tie the game with a blast from the left faceoff circle for his second goal in three games.
After the last ten minutes failed to decide anything, the teams went to overtime, securing the third point for the Golden Knights in this quick weekend trip.
It would be the only point they got, however, as Kirill Kaprizov took advantage of a late penalty to give the Wild the overtime victory.
Lindbom continues to search for his first NHL victory five games in, putting up 24 of 27 saves.
The Golden Knights will return with three more points in tow, hoping to turn their fortunes around at home against the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
