It’s another edition of Prime Monday Night Hockey in today’s NHL predictions. Both the Canadiens and Blue Jackets are coming off narrow losses on Saturday night. This is the second time that the Habs and Blue Jackets have been featured on Prime Monday Night Hockey. Both clubs have struggled to find consistency in the last 10 games.
Montreal is coming off a 3-2 loss to the rival Boston Bruins on Saturday evening. Injuries have hit the Canadiens hard, with Kirby Dach the latest player to go down. Montreal got off to a great start, but has fallen back to earth in recent games.
Columbus punched above its weight last season, but reality may also be setting in for the team. The Blue Jackets lost, 2-1, in a shootout to the New York Rangers on Saturday. Columbus is hoping to string some wins together to get back in the Metropolitan Division race.
This edition of NHL predictions will take a look at the statistics and storylines heading into this Monday Night Hockey on Prime matchup.
The Canadiens Story
Montreal started off the season on fire after a season-opening loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, injuries and other factors have played into the team’s recent three-game losing streak. The Habs are 11th in power-play success rate at 21.4 percent. However, there have been some issues in recent games.
Jakub Dobes was the confirmed starter as of Sunday afternoon. Dobes is 6-1-1, with a 2.77 goals-against-average and a .901 save percentage. The young goalie is making his case to get more time in the Canadiens’ crease.
Nick Suzuki is first on the team in assists (17) and points (21), while Cole Caufield is tops in goals with 13. Lane Hutson also has 13 assists so far this campaign.
The Blue Jackets Story
Columbus had plenty of promise to start the season after a surprising run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, it’s been tough sledding for the Blue Jackets, with them being seventh in the Metropolitan Division.
Jet Greaves is the expected starter, but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Greaves has a 5-4-2 record, with a 2.80 goals-against-average and a .904 save percentage.
Kirill Marchenko is first on the team in goals (8), assists (12), and points (20). The Blue Jackets will be without Boone Jenner, who has been continually bitten by the injury bug.
Prediction
Both teams need points and are dealing with injuries. These clubs are both likely going to ride with young netminders in this Monday Night Hockey on Prime matchup.
However, Montreal seems to be more equipped to get the victory. The Habs have some more offensive firepower with their dynamic young forwards. Montreal will also be motivated after suffering its third consecutive loss.
Prediction: Canadiens win 4-2.
Prop Bets of the Night
We close out this Monday Night Hockey edition of NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for this game is at 6.5, and we like the under in this game.
As for individual prop bets, go with Ivan Demidov to get at least a point for the Canadiens. On the Blue Jackets’ side of things, take defenceman Zach Werenski to record a power-play point.
