Former Bruins center John Beecher

After being placed on waivers yesterday, the verdict regarding John Beecher and the Montreal Canadiens has just come in.

Injuries at center, along with struggles in the faceoff circle, had given many fans hope that Kent Hughes would claim Beecher.

His profile really made it seem like the Habs wouldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Let’s be honest, a 6’3″, 220-pound center who is intense, young, and capable of winning faceoffs is not easy to find.

The verdict is in for John Beecher and the Montreal Canadiens

Elliotte Friedman has just confirmed the waiver result.

“Calgary claims Beecher”

– Friedman

John Beecher was ultimately not claimed by the Montreal Canadiens.

For many, it’s a small shock, especially given his status as a former first-round pick and his young age.

Some even described Beecher as the perfect player to help the Habs immediately.

“John Beecher: A 24-year-old left-shot center, 6’3”, 220 pounds, effective in the faceoff circle.

No, he is not the savior for the second line. No, he won’t score 50 points per season.

But with all the injuries on the Canadiens, I would definitely claim him.

Zero risk.”

And I’ll admit, I also thought the Habs would try something here, especially with the current situation at center.

The case is now closed, at least for the moment, and the Canadiens will have to find other solutions.
