The Utah Mammoth visit the Shark Tank tonight, getting ready to finish out the second night of a tough back-to-back series. Last night, the Mammoth fell in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. Since its hot start, Utah has cooled off a bit. The Mammoth are 10-7-2 for the season, not as far ahead of the San Jose Sharks as the team once was. Utah has points in three straight games, but has lost its last two.

Similarly, the Sharks are on a two-game losing streak after falling to the Calgary Flames and the Seattle Kraken to close out the team’s three-game road trip. San Jose will look to prove it’s turned a corner by keeping its losing streaks short. A win tonight would show the rest of the league that San Jose is taking one of those steps towards competitiveness.

Nick Schmaltz is the Mammoth’s leading scorer with 10 goals and 22 points. Logan Cooley is second on the team with nine goals. Clayton Keller has 18 points, just behind Schmaltz.

Expect to see former Shark, Vítek Vaněček, in the net tonight since Karel Vejmelka played last night against the Ducks. Vaněček has played five games for the Mammoth this season and has a 2-3-0 record. Vaněček has a 2.85 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.

This is the second of three meetings between these three teams this season. The last time they met was Oct. 17 in Salt Lake City, when Schmaltz scored a hat trick and the Mammoth won 6-3. They will meet again on Dec. 1 at SAP Center.

San Jose Sharks lines tonight

The big change for the Sharks tonight is on the blueline, where veteran defenseman John Klingberg is expected to sit. Klingberg has not been good the last few games, and it looks like it’s time for the accountability that Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky has talked about so much. While Klingberg has had a longer leash than some of the young rookies, he hasn’t turned it around and now, he’ll sit a game.

Here’s what San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng reports the lines are expected to look like tonight. Yaroslav Askarov is expected to be in the net for the Sharks.

Utah Mammoth lines vs. San Jose Sharks

On the Mammoth side of the puck, there was no morning skate because the players played last night. That said, the Mammoth will likely have a bit of extra energy because their moms are on the trip.
