The Vancouver Canucks have appeared to make the right decision by keeping Elias Pettersson over J.T. Miller after dealing the latter to the New York Rangers.

At the time, the trade didn’t sit too well with many members of the Vancouver Canucks fan base, especially with Elias Pettersson not living up to expectations and ultimately finishing the 2024-25 season with the second-lowest point total of his NHL career.

While Pettersson didn’t have the best start to the current campaign, the Sundsvall, Sweden native has picked up the pace of late and is starting to look like the player he once was, leading some to believe the club did end up making the right decision by keeping him around.

For the first time since December 23rd, 2024, Elias Pettersson recorded a multi-goal effort as the Canucks fell to the Florida Panthers on Sunday to wrap up their road trip and it’s safe to say that he’s finally starting to turn the corner and produce on a consistent basis for this club once again.

In his last four games, Pettersson has put up eight points and now has 19 (six goals, 13 assists) in 21 contests this season, seven points more than his former teammate, J.T. Miller, who sits at nine (four goals, five assists) this season.

Miller has struggled this season, as have his New York Rangers, who sit outside of the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference and have won just one of nine home games to start the 2025-26 campaign.

“#Canucks Elias Pettersson has nine points in his last six games. That is the same amount of points that J.T. Miller has in 20 games this year.” Adam Kierszenblat of The Hockey News said.

Not only does Pettersson have over double the points Miller has, the Canucks forward has been among the best in the National Hockey League over the last seven days, with only Quinn Hughes and Dallas’ Jason Robertson tallying more points than him.

“Since November 11, the NHL’s top 3 in points looks like this:
#Canucks Quinn Hughes- 10 points in 3 games
Stars- Jason Robertson- 9 points in 3 games
Canucks Elias Pettersson- 8 points in 4 games” Kierszenblat said.

This is a great sign for Adam Foote and the Vancouver Canucks’ coaching staff, especially with Quinn Hughes heating up too, because if both of those guys are at the top of their game, it significantly increases the team’s chances of playing postseason hockey next spring.
