Troy Stecher just finished his first game with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and bluntly said he’d just left «a fire» in Edmonton.

Troy Stecher has concerning quote on his departure from Edmonton Oilers

TSN analyst Mike Johnson revealed he spoke with Troy Stecher about his departure from the Oilers, and he was candid that Edmonton is in trouble.

I had a little conversation with Stecher this morning. I said, ‘you’re walking into the fire a little bit here’, and he said, ‘I just left the fire. It’s the exact same as in Edmonton.’

Considering how much trouble the Leafs are in, Stecher saying he just left a similar situation isn’t a good statement on the Oilers. He’s not wrong, either.

The Oilers offence isn’t generating chances, the defence is performing well below expected, and the goaltending is still inconsistent. Stecher saying he’s leaving a fire though may raise concerns an area affecting all: the coaching staff.

Whether it’s the players, the performance, the coaching staff, or the roster management – the Oilers are a fire right now. Fans online are extremely weary of what this Stecher comment says about Edmonton right now.

They’ll need to get back to playing at their full potential and rattle off a significant win streak to get themselves back in a playoff position. Something may need to change for that to happen.
