The Pittsburgh Penguins offloaded a full day’s worth of news Tuesday as they returned to practice following their transcontinental flight home from Stockholm. One call-up, one waiver, one injured reserve, three players resumed skating, Tristan Jarry dropped the quote of the year, and the Penguins waived Philip Tomasino. And a partridge in a pear tree. Elsewhere in the Daily, the pressure cooker is starting to boil in Toronto. Scouts have soured on Gavin McKenna at Penn State and dropped him from the top-ranked draft prospect, and we’re waiting with baited breath to see if the NHL delegation Milan believes the hockey arena will be ready for the Olympics.

The Daily is a bit late today. I popped awake at 2 a.m. and couldn’t get back to sleep for a few hours. I’m doing my best to get on a regular schedule. I also found myself checking flights in February to go back to Stockholm, but after the struggle to get on schedule, I’ll probably just see the Northern Lights on this continent, if I go anywhere.

PHN also has a little surprise for you today or tomorrow, and a Black Friday surprise.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Tristan Jarry opened the vault a bit on his injury history as he comes back from the latest lower-body ailment: “It took over a year to feel human.” Here’s Jarry’s story.

Not only did Jarry return to the ice (it was an optional), but Noel Acciari, Justin Brazeau, and Rickard Rakell. It was a full house during the injured skate before the Penguins’ practice.

Penguins News: Ville Koivunen on IR, Sam Poulin recalled, and then the team waived Philip Tomasino.

PHN+: It was good to speak with Poulin Tuesday. He’s gone through hell, and now he’s earned his way back for another opportunity. I maintain he’s playing better, faster, than he ever has. Subscribers can see the gratitude and acceptance in the locker room video of his chat, included in the story. It might be his last chance, too. “I’m ready,” said Sam Poulin.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Sportsnet: It’s not been a good few weeks for Penn State, eh? After the football program stumbled, now hockey is taking a hit as Gavin McKenna isn’t as dominant as everyone thought. Jason Bakula writes–why McKenna isn’t the No.1 pick anymore.

Uh oh. Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving endorsed head coach Craig Berube but had few solutions for the “vanilla” Maple Leafs. The pressure is going to level 10 up north.

TSN: Could Team Canada select both Macklin Celebrini AND Connor Bedard? The boys are making a strong case.

If Bedard had gone to the Worlds, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Philly Hockey Now: The Flyers’ 2025 first-round pick, Porter Martone, who the Penguins also loved, is off to a strong start and making a good case for the Hobey Baker. Will James has the scoop on the Flyers prospect.

Does anyone else get the feeling that scouts really misjudged the 2025 Draft? Ahem, Ben Kindel.

Montreal Hockey Now: The folks in Montreal, or at least the media, are eying up Tomasino. The banged-up Habs need help–will the Montreal Canadiens make the claim?

Detroit Hockey Now: Wait, whut?! Guess who is in first place in the Atlantic Division? I’m not joking, this is my job. Yes, the first place, Detroit Red Wings.
